Ezra Reese is Elias Law Group’s Political Law chair. He focuses his practice on nonprofit tax law and political law, with an emphasis on nonprofit organizations that wish to engage in lobbying or electoral activity.
Ezra’s clients include charities, issue organizations, trade associations, and political committees. He guides clients on IRS restrictions, particularly those regarding lobbying and political activities. He also helps them navigate issues relating to federal, state and local campaign finance and lobbying restrictions and filings. Ezra’s counsel extends to advising organizations on media law regarding political and issue advertisements. Additionally, Ezra has advised candidates for president, the United States Senate, and the United States House of Representatives on their campaigns. He served as general counsel to Pete for America, Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign, in 2020.
Ezra helps nonprofits in a range of areas, from organization and creation of a long-term legal strategy to day-to-day management of their legal needs. He has represented clients before the IRS and the FEC and in federal and state court on campaign finance and tax issues. Ezra is active in nonprofit tax policy and reform efforts and has authored articles and presentations on nonprofit tax and campaign finance issues.
Ezra clerked for the Hon. Sandra Lynch, U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He received both undergraduate and J.D. degrees from Harvard University, graduating magna cum laude from both and serving on the Harvard Law Review.
