Courtney Weisman is a counsel in ELG’s Political Law practice group. She focuses her practice on the laws governing state and federal elections, political advertisements and voting rights.

Working as outside counsel to the Democratic Governors Association, the Democratic Attorneys General Association, the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State, gubernatorial campaigns and other progressive groups, Courtney has developed expertise in the complex web of laws governing how individuals and organizations may raise, spend, and disclose funds in statewide elections.

With a background in written and oral advocacy, Courtney helped build and now leads ELG’s practice challenging television ads that falsely attack Democratic candidates for Senate, House, and Governor. She has persuaded stations to remove 9 Republican-backed ads in the last 3 years alone. Courtney’s success has been featured in newspapers around the country, most recently the New York Times.

Courtney has successfully defended governors in high-profile investigations and won significant advisory opinions for clients before the Federal Election Commission and state agencies. She has extensive experience in recounts and post-election challenges, helping to successfully defend close election victories for candidates in Florida, Kentucky, Virginia and New Jersey and secure President Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania after the 2020 elections.

After serving as a political appointee in the Obama Administration and working for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, Courtney received her J.D. from NYU School of Law in 2016. She received her B.A. summa cum laude from University of Florida in 2010.
